Barents Biocentre Lab has invested in advanced mass spectrometric equipment from Waters Corp., and on September 3rd John Shockcor (Director of Strategic Operations, Waters Technologies Corp.) will visit and give two presentations within metabolomics during this one day seminar. The presentations are entitled "An overview: What is metabolomics - Strength and weakness of metabolomics study design" and "The role of various combinations of chromatography-mass spectrometry instruments in metabolomics".

The seminar will also include a guided tour to the laboratory facilities at Barents Biocentre Lab, with emphasis on the mass spectrometric equipment that can be used for metabolomics.

Metabolomics is the scientific study of chemical processes involving metabolites. Specifically, metabolomics is the "systematic study of the unique chemical fingerprints that specific cellular processes leave behind", the study of their small-molecule metabolite profiles.
